Introduction
KenyaUnlimited was created to build on the foundations laid down by the Kenyan Blogs Webring (KBW). One of our aims was to move beyond blogging and beyond the virtual world. In keeping with this aim we would like to propose a KBW Social Responsibility Initiative.
Why?
Over the years the Kenyan blogosphere has evolved from several individual entities into a web family made up of one entity, KBW. Our members are interacting both within and outside of the blog world and friendships have been formed. In particular, through their ‘meet-ups’, our Nairobi based bloggers have pioneered the development of a social organisation that transcends the Internet.
The ‘meet-ups’ are conducted purely on a voluntary basis and have resulted in face-to-face interaction between bloggers from different social and professional groups, different ages and personalities. These individuals are united in their membership of KBW despite these differences.
We have been inspired and motivated by their enthusiasm and the manner in which they have embraced these interactions and we seek to replicate this model for the good of the societies we are part of.
How?
We all have our own definition of ‘social responsibility’; be it monetary donations, offering prayers or devoting our time, etc. The possibilities are endless. This is why we have opened up this debate and would be grateful for your thoughts on the following:
- How can KBW members work together to give back to our communities?
- Would you like to be involved in a KBW Social Responsibility Project?
- How would you like to be involved?
You can leave your responses as a comment below or send an email to admin@kenyaunlimited.com.
We would be grateful if you could give an indication of where you are based, if you are interested, so that we can factor this into the project(s) we initiate.
KBW members based outside Kenya are also encouraged to participate in this initiative. This could be through contributing to the projects based in Kenya as well as generating projects within their current communities.
What Next?
Following on from the feed back we receive we shall compile a list of projects for further discussion.
Afromusing once had a post on planting trees or donating £ to plant trees for starters.
Yes I would like to be involved, but cant think of a project at the moment, if any come to mind, will shout out, ( but since we are a blogging community how about something related to computers and the internet to less fortunate young kenyans?
I got one in Mind that Kibet did post. See here http://thegreatkenya.blogspot.com/2006/05/st-francis-integrated-school-karen.html
