The Death of Karma
Posted: May 31, 2010, 5:34 pm by cerealinabox
They announced it on radio,
We laughed and hugged,
The children, naked,
Jumped and clapped,
Women, sagged breasts,
Raised their hands in prayer,
Men smiled long creaky smiles,
Smiles we had forgotten,
Ululations as we lined up for food.
They brought it in trucks,
White heavy tortoises with red flags,
Crawling in a single file,
Farting clouds of dust,
The children jumped and clapped.
It came in spasm,
Biting stomachs,
Painful unbearable spasms,
The children writhed and squirmed,
Till their bodies went silent,
Limp bodies,
Lifeless eyes,
Pools of diarrhea and vomit,
A whole village went silent,
But for babies crying for breasts.
They heard it from a minister,
They hatched and drew,
Easy money,
Last years rotting harvest,
They laughed and toasted,
Dreaming of cheques,
Zeroes interrupted by commas
The world watched as karma died

Fish cakes
Alas a fish cake.
Yet more fish cakes
Guess what ... yeah ... fish cakes.
The end of the fish cakes
