Mashujaa Day
Posted: October 20, 2011, 3:03 pm by ruggerbug
Out looking in
Down looking up
Up looking down
Or in looking across
All places we have been
All places we could see
What made us glow with pride
And what made us aspire to be
We all have
And we all know
Some of us are
And of us yet to be
Not something for all
But that affects us all
For in our lives they come
And in our lives they dwell
Forever to remain
As Heroes to all of us.Happy Mashujaa Day to all. And even in our own small way, we are
someone's hero. Whether directly or indirectly we affect people's
lives. Ours is to make it a positive effect.Perhaps we can just mention in the comments who our personal rugby
heroes have been locally and I will collate them and put them in a
main post at the end of next week. -

Ayimba Names Strongest Side Yet for Hong Kong
Posted: March 15, 2011, 6:20 pm by ruggerbug
In what seems to be the strongest side to date, it seems all caution has been throwed out of the window and we're now on safety first. Though fortune favours the brave, they are soon jobless and this is a clear attempt to blunt the swords that are ever ready. We will be happy, but for me, just counting the age of the legs on the pitch and I'm worried. One day, they just won't want to run -

Mwamba regained the Western Union National Sevens Circuit with a confident display that saw them reach the semi finals of the just concluded Driftwoods Sevens in Mombasa. Coach Michael "Tank" Otieno and his technical team have named the side to face Zimbabwe in the opening match of the Victoria Cup on Saturday. Several players who were in action for Shujaa over the weekend in the Safaricom Sevens have been included. Only Ben Nyambu from the victorious Kenya squad is in the side. Suffice to say the players need their rest, and I hope the technical team will -

World's Most Prolific Try Scorer for Safari Sevens?

Santiago Gomez Cora - World's Most Prolific Try ScorerNot to be. Maybe they should have called themselves "Les Pampas" a la "Les Bleaus" to avoid confusing the general public. I've gone through the list of the Argentina team for the Safari Sevens and compared with last weekend's line-up in Edinburgh, Scotland and was disappointed not to see the name of one Santiago Gomez Cora. Then I compared -

Hong Kong IRB Sevens Update: Kenya 12 New Zealand 21
Posted: March 28, 2010, 12:45 pm by ruggerbug
Scored first then lost the plot. Not helped by some strange calls that took us off our rhythm. Our tries by Humphrey Kayange and Lavin Asego. We now meet South Africa in the plate competition. -
Hong Kong IRB 7's Update: Kenya 7 South Africa 21
Posted: March 27, 2010, 5:20 pm by ruggerbug
Not much improvement in our game. Though we were through to the quarters already, we are still not finishing well and not defending well. Now add to that losing most of our ruck ball, we were not really in it. Only try from Humphrey Kayange.Tomorrow we face New Zealand in the last quarter final of the main cup. -
Hong Kong IRB 7's Update: Kenya 24 Zimbabwe 0

A good start to the day. The lads seem focused and ready for the task at hand. Points will matter for qualification into the next round and this time they seem ready for the business. A bit disturbing was the one try and manner it was scored against us, but maybe it really didn't matter. Tries by Collins Injera, Humphrey Kayange, Brian Nyikuli, Victor Sudi and Sidney Ashioya.Next match -

IRB Adelaide Rugby Sevens Update: Kenya 19 Wales 5

A good controlled performance but questions as to our passing and handling ability. Gave away possession too easily. Collins Injera with two ties Inncocent Simiyu with one. Lavin Asego good with two conversion. Next game Fiji to decide who goes into the quarter finals. -
IRB Adelaide Sevens Update: Kenya 27 Papua New Guinea 7

Good for a first game. We barely broke a sweat. Ayimba seems confident enough to change things round from early on and giving people a run. Two tries each by Innocent Simiyu and Humphrey Kayange and one by Gibson Weru were enough. Though PNG were a bit troublesome, I think we coped well. That's the only game for us for today. Tomorrow we meet Wales and Fiji. Interesting that Wales have -

IRB Sevens Las Vegas Wrap
Posted: February 15, 2010, 2:20 pm by ruggerbug
A good summary from the IRB Website. In all a much better performance from us. An improved use of the bench helped us to achieve this. We still remain in sixth position with 44 points, two behind a much improved Australia side and eight above defending champions South Africa. Our defense is greatly improved, however we seem to have lost some spark in our attack. We seem too predictable and -

Wellington Rugby 7's Update: Day 1 Wrap Up
Posted: February 5, 2010, 7:42 pm by ruggerbug
Perhaps we expected too much from the lads. Perhaps they have over-trained. Perhaps they are jaded. Perhaps they are homesick. I just don't know. Our mental strength does not seem to be up to the task and we're struggling. Despite over a week at a high performance centre, we don't seem to be showing much for it. My own experience tells me we tend to relax after such an exposure. We tend -

Wellington Rugby 7's Update : Kenya 24 USA 7
Posted: February 5, 2010, 10:15 am by ruggerbug
A better more focused performance though off to a slow start again, going 0-7 down early on. Woke up and did the business. Two tries by Lavin Asego, one by Innocent Simiyu and one by Collins Injera. Kicking was a bit off once more, maybe time we got brave and used another goal kicker as Asego's hamstring seems to be interfering.Next game at about 11. -
Wellington Rugby 7's Update : Kenya 15 Tonga 7
Posted: February 5, 2010, 6:52 am by ruggerbug
A very shaky start. Went down 0-7 before recovering to win this one. We don't seem sharp at all and are very casual in our approach. Defense and goal kicking is woeful. Need to step up 5x. Try scorers Gibson Weru one and Collins Injera 2.Next game in 3 hours. -

Dubai Rugby Sevens Update - Kenya 10 England 27

A brace by Collins Injera was all we got in this one. We were out-muscled at the breakdown and in the end got worn out physically. We still struggled to make our tackles count and the physicality drained us to an extent we now could not get to the distant breakdowns. Still a good performance and we're still in the main cup quarter finals. Will try to post the pairings here once I know them. -

Horace Otieno broke the Americans' hearts with the last try after the buzzer. Other try scorers were Humphrey Kayange with two more, Sidney Ashioya and Collins Injera with one each.
