Creative gifts are not the kind you can turn off when it’s inconvenient. They are not a part of you. They are you. Once you are born a painter or a writer or a musician, it reflects in everything you do. You feel more; words have special kin with you when you are a writer, so their weight bears harder on you. The Love of my Life – Romance on the Blog

He stood out from among the other young men, with his hair parted in the middle in that silly way educated men liked to comb their hair. When he smiled, she was surprised at how white his teeth were; he surely had to be using the muguchwa tree everyday! He was tall, well a little taller than her, and she was tall. Her mother always made the joke that men would surely be intimidated by her because of her height. It was not a good thing if a man was intimidated by a woman, mother would say quickly. Aspirations – Poetic on the Storymoja Blog
Posted: October 10, 2011, 9:30 am by Storymoja Africa
I’ve always loved words, loved to write, spin words on their axis and see where they orbit, and then watch in wonder. Don’t get me wrong, I do not consider myself a poet. But I do have poetic aspirations. I aspire to use words to tell stories, my stories, the story of humanity, of life and hope, and joy, and on the farthest swing of the pendulum; the end of the cycle of life, despair, hurt, sadness, and in between everything else that makes us who we are. Posted: July 25, 2011, 9:30 am by Storymoja Africa
There is a great wide open market for urban fiction out there. Why? Because it is one genre of writing that has a no holds barred rule with regards to content, language, style and very importantly, sex. And people want realism with their fiction; honesty about the darkness in us, hard truth about the universe. See also the Urban Fiction Writing Contest Entries!

So I hope that helps. And now let's continue mining around the internet, this time in the Kenyan cybersphere, for those interesting blog posts. If you just jumped down to see the Blog Posts Expo, yeah, go back up and read Frances' article, there'll be a pop quiz later and prizes to be won :) The purpose of the cybermining exercise is to identify the different types of writing you can do online. They will range naturally from short fiction, to opinion editorials and technical writing. I hope you enjoy and learn as much as I have. If you like these posts comment on them onsite, but also come back and tell us what you think. You could also nominate a blog post for next month's Blog Posts Expo which will be on June 20th. Alright, here we go!

Writing Sonnets – Storymoja Blog’s Poetry Week
Posted: May 2, 2011, 10:00 am by Storymoja Africa
When you bring it down to the most basic definition, a sonnet is a poem that follows a specific structure and shows two related but different things to communicate contrastive ideas, emotions, states of mind, beliefs, actions, events… I, for some very strangely masochistic reason, I have kept some of my school books that cover High School English Literature. Anyway, when I could get past my own embarrassment of looking into my youth, I found this sonnet.

The Woman Who Waited: Writing Novellas – Storymoja Writers’ Blog
Posted: March 28, 2011, 3:13 pm by Storymoja Africa
As you can see, this story needs a little more time to narrate, yet for certain reasons the author chose to make it worth just a few snapshots, rather than a full novel. I personally enjoyed reading it, but perhaps because I found that Vera and I had a lot in common, not less than that she upended every conceivable stereotype presented against her.
