Kongonis XI defeat Ruaraka CC
Posted: September 21, 2010, 2:16 am by Ben83
Batting first after being sent in on a green pitch, Kongonis put up a very defendable total of 233 with Baden Powell making his maiden half century, and Chris Childs also chipping in with a half century of his own. Skipper Paul Marshall added a valuable 46.
In reply, Ruaraka got off to a flying start, before the introduction of Suji into the Kongonis attack, picking up a triple wicket maiden at one stage. This over pretty much put the result beyond doubt as Kongonis cruised home by a final margin of 55 runs as Ruaraka were dismissed for 178. Seren Waters has continued his recent run of good form making 129 for Surrey 2nd XI against MCC YC this week. This followed his score of 82 in Surrey 2nd XI's previous 3 day match against Hampshire 2nd XI and a quickfire 51 not out in the match against Worcestershire 2nd XI.

Peter Ongondo has been playing for Chesham Cricket Club in his most recent match taking a wicket and blasting 16 not out off 9 balls. Ongondo has had a good season taking 33 wickets at 28.16 and also making some handy late order contributions with the bat.

Seren Waters and Abeed Janmohamed have been at it again for the Weybridge Cricket Club this week. Playing against Guildford Cricket Club in the Premier Division of the Surrey Championship in the unusual format of 'timed' one day cricket, Waters picked up 4/86 with the ball off a marathon 22 overs, and once again backed it up with the bat contributing an aggressive 46. Janmohamed came in with team in trouble at 89/5, before contributing a fighting 52 not out. His efforts were in vain as Weybridge fell well short of the required target.
Ragheb Aga put in a solid allround performance himself for the Sussex 2nd XI this week in a One Day match against Hampshire 2nd XI. Aga blasted 23 off just 19 balls with the bat, before chipping in with 1/16 off 5 overs opening the bowling for Sussex 2nds.
Moses Otieno turning out for the Combined Services team, has been in good wicket taking form of late, including hauls of 4/39 against Cambridge University, 1/29 against Police and a 3 wicket haul against a touring side.
With the team touring Ireland to be announced today, it'll be interesting to see if any of these overseas players are included in the squad given their current form.Become a fan of Kenya Cricket.com on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035?ref=nf#/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035 -
Waters continues allround form.
Posted: June 16, 2009, 2:44 am by Ben83
Seren Waters has continued his good allround form for the Weybridge Cricket Club on the weekend in his teams 7 wicket victory over Banstead Cricket Club in the Premier Division of the Surrey Championship.
Bowling first, Weybridge dismissed Banstead for 158 with Waters taking 3/11 off 3 overs to clean up the tail.
Weybridge had little trouble chasing down the target with 7 wickets in hand. Waters and fellow Kenyan Abeed Janmohamed opened together and put on a partnership of 77 before Janmohamed fell for a solid 44 including 7 fours and 1 six. Waters eventually fell for 65 which included 10 boundaries, with Weybridge just 20 short of the required target. Weybridge's 2nd and 3rd drop batsmen had little trouble polishing off the remaining 20 runs for the victory.
Also on the weekend, James Clegg smacked a huge 149 for Fairburn Cricket Club. His innings included 20 boundaries, and he also cleared the boundary 4 times.Become a fan of Kenya Cricket.com on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035?ref=nf#/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035 -
Overseas players continue to impress
Posted: June 8, 2009, 4:45 pm by Ben83
Seren Waters, Ragheb Aga and Abeed Janmohamed have continued on with their recent form in England.
Waters put in a good allround performance in Weybridge's drawn match against Malden Wanderers in the Surrey Premier League Competition. Waters chipped in with 2/27 off 6.5 overs with the ball, before backing it up with the bat, scoring a brisk 90 off just 95 balls.
In the previous week, Waters captain, Abeed Janmohamed pulled Weybridge out of a poor position of 83/6 against Wimbledon Cricket Club with a determined innings of 56. Earlier in the day, Waters had looked in good form, racing to 21 off just 20 balls, before falling to a misjudged run. Unfortunately their efforts werent enough as Weybridge went down by 6 wickets.
Finally, Ragheb Aga has continued his recent run of wicket taking for the Eastbourne Cricket Club in the Sussex Premier League Competition taking 3/47 off 14 overs in his teams loss to Cuckfield Cricket Club.
Once again, it is great to see these players performing well in overseas competitions, hopefully all three can maintain their recent good run of form.Become a fan of Kenya Cricket.com on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035?ref=nf#/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035 -
Waters continues good form
Posted: May 29, 2009, 5:08 pm by Ben83
Seren Waters has continued on with his recent run of good form with the Surrey Cricket Academy. On a mini two match tour Waters top scored with 72 in Surrey's first match against an Under 25 XI from Huntingdonshire, unfortunately his efforts werent enough as they fell 96 runs short of the required target.
The following day taking on their Essex counterparts, Surrey Cruised home to a 9 wicket victory with Waters contributing 50 not out in tricky batting conditions.
Upon returning from the Academy tour, Waters joined the Sussex 2nd XI team to take on Middlesex in a Twenty20 at Cranleigh School. Waters contributed 21 (batting in the middle order) of a 45 run partnership with former England All Rounder Alex Tudor. However Surrey could only muster 111/9 off their 20 overs, this proved to be short of the mark with Middlesex comfortably home by 5 wickets. Regardless of the two losses, it is great to see Waters in good form.Become a fan of Kenya Cricket.com on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035?ref=nf#/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035 -

Overseas Players, Amit Bhudia and the IC Cup/Shield.
Posted: May 25, 2009, 8:54 pm by Ben83
So this news isnt exactly the freshest, but a few overseas players, Seren Waters, Ragheb Aga and Abeed Janmohamed have put in some promising performances for their respective clubs in the past month.
Waters, turning out for the Weybridge Cricket Club (captained by former Kenya International, Abeed Janmohamed) in The Surrey Championship top scored with 91 in his teams narrow round 2 victory over the Spencer Cricket Club. Waters has also been playing for the Surrey 2nd XI and also their Academy. He has made a few promising starts for both the 2nd XI and the Academy, including a 77 not out for the Academy in their 10 wicket win over Normandy CC.
Janmohamed himself contributed 47 in Weybridge's round 1 loss to Sutton Cricket Club
Meanwhile, Ragheb Aga turning out for the Eastbourne Cricket Club when not on County Duties for Sussex, bowled a devastating spell in his sides 10 wicket win over Haywards Heath. Aga got 3 of the first 4 wickets to fall in the innings, before returning to clean up the Haywards Heath tail to finish with the excellent figures of 7/28 off 12.4 overs. Hopefully with more performances like this, Ragheb will make his way back into Sussex's first XI.
James Clegg, (Im not entirely sure if Clegg still desires to play for Kenya) started of his season for Fairburn Cricket with a cracking century, making 107 in his teams win over Darton Cricket Club. The Darton side featured England Womans player, Sarah Taylor.
It appears Amit Bhudia has overcome a shoulder injury. Turning out for Mombasa Sports Club against touring English Outfit Lisvane Cricket Club. Bhudia made 104 in his teams total of 258/8 off 35 overs, his innings included a massive 9 sixes. Mombasa went onto win the match which according to all reports, was played in very good spirit.
The Intercontinental Cup is set to resume soon with 11 teams now paticipating in two seperate divisions 'The ICC Intercontinental Cup' and 'The ICC Intercontinental Shield'. Kenya will be competeing in the ICC Intercontinental Cup Division which also features Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Afghanistan, Canada and a representative side from Zimbabwe. One team it doesnt feature, is last years runners up, Namibia who have been relegated due to their recent performance at the World Cup Qualifiers. As a result of this, Namibia will be featuring in the Shield competiton alongside Bermuda, UAE and Uganda. One feels this is a poor decision by the ICC to demote a team that were runners up in a 4 day tournament because of their performance in a 50 over tournament. To rub salt into the wound, the USA have been included in the World Twenty20 Qualifiers to take place in the United Arab Emirates in October ahead of Namibia. This event will also feature the top 6 associates/affiliates Ireland, Canada, Netherlands, Kenya, Scotland, Afghanistan and host nation UAE.
The Intercontinental Cup and Shield competitions will feature prizemoney for the first time. The winners of the Cup division to receive US$100,000 and the runners up US$40,000. In the Shield division division the winners will take home US$25,000 and the runners up US$10,000. An outright win in either division will be worth US$3,000.
Finally, thank you to Nick for inviting me to contribute to his blog. Hopefully my first attempt wasnt too shabby.Become a fan of Kenya Cricket.com on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035?ref=nf#/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035
