Samaj School clearly the leaders in the development game
Posted: March 23, 2010, 2:01 am by Chemosit
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 SCLPS clearly showed their dominance in the development stakes as both A and B teams took out their respective finals, while St Marys were the third victorious side. The number of new names to followers of Kenyan cricket should be as exciting as it must be daunting for the incumbents in the national age group sides. Perhaps if events like this were run before regional age group finals, Kenya would field stronger sides...

NPCA Secondary Schools Finals this weekend
Posted: March 20, 2010, 12:57 pm by Chemosit
Early this year, the NPCA revived the secondary school’s league in the city, in pursuit of one of the NPCA’s primary goals i.e. spreading of the cricket game.
The league has been running since 23rd January 2010 and on Saturday, 20th March 2010 from 9.00 am it will reach its climax. 3 finals are set for: Simba Union Club for Pool C and Nairobi Gymkhana Sports Club for Pool A and B.
The Awards Ceremony will take place after the A & B finals at Nairobi Gymkhana, in the afternoon.
While it is great to see this initiative back up and running again, it also saddens me that it it yet another instance of poor PR by the administration. This is the first we have been told of this event. Had we had earlier notification we could have followed the fortunes of Kenya's up and coming cricketers throughout the tournament.
It is high time Kenyan cricket pulled itself out of the dark ages and started giving its players the coverage they deserve and that the game needs it if is to become anything further than a niche sport in the country. We have not even been informed which teams will be taking part.
None the less, good luck to all involved and we hope to see more of these players featuring in the leagues in the near future.Become a fan of Kenya Cricket.com on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035?ref=nf#/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035 -

RIP Muslim Kanji
Posted: March 10, 2010, 2:46 am by Chemosit
It is regret that we learn of the passing of ex Kenyan International Muslim Kanji who passed away in London two days ago.
Muslim was a former Kenya Cricketer and was a fine and agile wicket-keeper and batsman. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him well. Our thoughts and condolances go to his family in this sad time. Rest in peace.Become a fan of Kenya Cricket.com on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035?ref=nf#/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035 -

Schools Coaching conducted during ODIs v Netherlands
Posted: March 3, 2010, 1:48 am by Chemosit
REPORT ON THE SCHOOLS THAT CAME TO WATCH KENYA
AND NETHERLANDS IN THE ONE DAY GAMES AND I-CUP AT
NAIROBI GYMKHANA FROM THE 16TH TO 23RD FEB 2010
THE 1ST ODI
The first One Day International was on Tuesday, 16th February and was attended by three
schools which were:
i. Murang’a Road Primary
ii. Riverbank primary
iii. Nairobi School
During the lunch break we had a session with the kids from Murang’a and River bank
playing cricket on the field while others did fielding, bowling and batting. National Team
assistant coach Martin Suji and national players Peter Ongondo, Tony Suji and Lameck
Onyango were at the ground to assist the kids with the basics.
THE 2ND ODI
This game was attended by 5 schools, 4 primary schools and 1 high school plus a special
projects vocational training school; City Park Hawkers Market.
i. Karura Forest Primary
ii. City Primary School
iii. Westland’s Primary school
iv. Lovine Concern Education Centre
v. Lenana School
vi. City Park Hawkers
We had the same session again on the field with the kids displaying their talents in
bowling, fielding others played a mini-cricket game. They were assisted by all the
development officers and the NPCA coaches.
The national players in place were Shem Obado, James Ngoche and Martin Suji who
spoke to the kids on ways of improving their game.
INTERCONTINENTAL CUP (20TH – 22ND FEB 10)
1ST DAY - 20TH FEB
It was another chance for the school children to experience the longer version of the
game. The schools that attended were;
i. Highridge Primary
ii. Jamhuri High School
iii. Eastleigh High School
iv. Mathare Youth
v. Ebenezar Youth
vi. Lenana School
vii. City Park Hawkers
During the lunch break we engaged the children again in the field and the students where
they practiced drills on bowling, fielding and batting. I invited the Netherlands players
who came with their coach and manager to help the kids with cricketing skills. The coach
spoke to the students about international cricket and how to achieve their goals by
working hard on their game. The national team coach Eldine Baptiste and Martin Suji
also came along and took pictures with the students.
2ND DAY - 21ST FEB
This was the second day of the 1-cup which was attended by only one school which was
i. Highway secondary school
3RD DAY - 22ND FEB
This was the 3rd day of the 1 – cup game which was attended by 5 primary schools one
special project the Mathare Youth and Samaj School
These were.
i. Pangani Primary
ii. Pumwani Primary
iii. Muslim Primary
iv. Dr. Aggrey Primary
v. Roysambu Primary
vi. Mathare Youth
vii. S.C.L.P.S
The demonstration of basic skills by the children carried on over lunch hour with Peter
Ongondo, Lameck Onyango from the national team coming again to assist with the drills.
We also engaged under-19 players the likes of; Emmanuel Bundi and Vikram Thampy
who were also there with the kids.Ongondo spoke to the students after the demonstrations
and told them to enjoy their game every time they practice in their schools. Lameck was
also happy to see Dr. Aggrey primary school his former school to coming to watch
International Cricket. He promised to visit them and conduct a session with them soon.
Conclusion
Thanks go to Cricket Kenya once again for giving an opportunity to the school children
to come and watch International matches, facilitating their transport and meals. It was a
chance to expose the students on the shorter and longer version of the game.
The two ODI games were watched by nine schools while the I-Cup was watched by 14
primary and secondary schools. Lenana school took their time to watch both the one day
games and the I-Cup match.
Most private schools could not make it as the games were played during their school midterm
and students had gone home.
Kudos go to both the Netherlands and Kenyan players who came along to help the over
450 students who came to Gymkhana in the six days that the games were played. They
guided the youngsters with their basic cricket and also offered advice.
This gesture will go along way in the memories of those students in developing their
game.
The Netherlands team also left some clothing that will be distribute to some secondary
school boys who do not have the playing T-shirts and trousers and some under-17 boys.
There has been a lot of interest in the game in schools since the tri-series between Kenya,
Scotland and Uganda where schools also came to watch the game.

Posted: March 2, 2010, 12:56 pm by Chemosit
CRICKET KENYA PRESS RELEASE: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER RECRUITMENT
Cricket Kenya wishes to inform members of the media that it has received an overwhelming response to its advertisement to recruit a Chief Executive Officer.
Well over 60 applications have been received ranging from countries all over the world including Australia, Sri Lanka, India, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa and USA. There has also been very strong interest in this position from local Kenyan applicants.
Cricket Kenya Chairman, Samir Inamdar, has appointed a sub-committee to consider the applications in order to prepare a final shortlist of candidates for interview. The sub-committee includes Shamji Patel (Vice-Chairman), Nasoor Verjee (Treasurer) and the three provincial chairmen Bipin Vora (NPCA), Pankaj Desai (CCA) and Martin Bentley (RVCA). Assisting this sub-committee in its deliberations will be Richard Done, the ICC High Performance Manager and Cassim Suliman, CEO, Africa Cricket Association.Become a fan of Kenya Cricket.com on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035?ref=nf#/pages/Kenya-Cricketcom/89954211035
