Sorry, we gotta wait until next December
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever ... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths ofguile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities ... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know. -

Video: Tyler Perry's "Good Deeds" (Trailer)
Posted: December 17, 2011, 8:39 pm by KenyaChristian
A successful, wealthy businessman, Wesley Deeds, (Tyler Perry), has always done what’s expected of him, whether it’s assuming the helm of his father’s company, tolerating his brother’s misbehavior at the office or planning to marry his beautiful but restless fiancée, Natalie, (Gabrielle Union). But Wesley is jolted out of his predictable routine when he meets Lindsey, (Thandie Newton), a down-on-her-luck single mother who works on the cleaning crew in his office building. When he offers to help her get back on her feet, the chance encounter with someone so far outside his usual circle ignites something in Wesley. This one good deed may finally spark his courage to exchange the life that’s expected of him for the life he’s always really wanted.

Check out a poem I did that appeared in the Storymoja Hay Festival newsletter this year(bottom right). I'm so proud. This won the 2nd place cash prize. I wrote this poem after reading Kwani? 5 and was inspired to express my feelings on the post-election violence.(link)

Video: Just A Band - "Huff + Puff"
Posted: December 8, 2011, 8:22 pm by KenyaChristian
The concept behind Just A Band‘s new video came about from a challenge — two Norwegian filmmakers in Kenya dared the band to shoot a video “with a bunch of constraints, such as having to include a movie reference… starting with A Clockwork Orange.” In response, the boys suited up in an array of improvised costumes and filmed this minstrel-like, ’20s feel clip for “Huff + Puff” in the outskirts of Nairobi.

Watch Elsaphan Njora, Kevin (K2) Maina and all of JAB duke it out and throw down some serious moves in A Tale of Graceless Shuffling above. The video-challenge is a part of the upcoming documentary The Big C. Find “Huff + Puff” on Just A Band’s excellent 82 LP. -
Video: "Shattered" (Trailer)

"Shattered" tells the story of a woman whose traumatic childhood in a seemingly ideal middle class family becomes a precursor to a life of turmoil, depression, and self destructive behaviour. Inspired by several true life stories, the plot of "Shattered" will keep the viewer enraptured from beginning to end as the protagonist Keziah Njema (Rita Dominic) struggles to overcome enduring psychological destruction caused by years of abuse.
